Shouldering big burdens

Today I was reading the USA Today and came across a small graphic with stats on heavy backpacks. The information they came up with that were most commonly carried was: Laptop – 5-8 lbs, Clothing – 5 lbs, Book – 1.5 lbs, Electronic Devices – 1 lb, Wallet – 1 lb, and Work Files – 1 lb. (Image of graphic posted below)  Now I wanna first know who has 5 pounds of clothing in their bag! And second, who can carry only one pound of books. Daily I have at least 3 books for my classes (that I never use in class) and my big notebook. Along with that I have my Macbook, and other small accessories. According to the spine surgeons interviewed in the graphic, they say that one should not carry over 10% body weight. My bag on a normal school day weighs 17 pounds, and if I need my chemistry book for class it puts it over 20. I weigh 160 pounds which puts 10% at 16 pounds. So thats good but there can be several days I will need something extra to take to class and puts it more over 20 pounds. I am not the only student that this has happened to. Are students going to have back problems in 10 years? 20 years?
What are your opinions on this graphic? How much do your bags weigh on a normal day and are you a student or just an employee carrying things to work? Let me know what you think and post it in the comments!
